PhD Candidate Einar Torfi Einarsson was commissioned by Nordic Music Days 2011 to write a piece for the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. The piece, Repetition of Repetition, was performed in the opening concert of the festival conducted by Martyn Brabbins. Einar also recently finished a project for the ELISION Ensemble, a piece co-commissioned by TRANSIT festival, hcmf// and Dark Music Days. The piece, entitled Non-vanishing vacuum state, was premiered in Leuven, Belgium, during the TRANSIT festival in October 2011 and repeated at Huddersfield in November. Einar is now working on a commission from Ensemble Intercontemporain / IRCAM for a piece for 26 musicians which will be premiered by Ensemble Intercontemporain on October 5, 2012. The piece explores different functionalities of the conductor in the sense that she/he is given a part just like the other musicians and is therefore semi-decoupled / semi-independent. Furthermore, the piece sets out to attack the concept of identity through the investigation of obscured-repetition, temporality, destabilized-form and physicality.
